September Book Club

Hi Everyone!

We had an amazing response to my last post. Book club has hosts for each month until February. The following have volunteered:

October - Elly Franklin
November - Jordan Robertson
January - Michelle Jorgenson
February- Cerise Gomez

I'll send a reminder to each individual after our monthly meeting and post the details on the blog when I'm given them.

Now for information for September:

Reading: A Tree Grows in Brooklyn (sorry if this disappoints some but I really want to read it!)

Date: September 22, 2011 at 7:30 pm

Location: The home of Leslie Hatch

I will find people to do author bio and questions.

Let me know if anyone has questions. You can email me at Lesliehatch at gmail dot com.

See you the 22nd!

Reorganizing Book Club - Open Letter to Members

I sent this email out today but could not find everyone's email addresses so I am posting it on the blog so no one is left out. Thanks! - Leslie

Hi Everyone,
I send you this email because I have been thinking about upcoming book clubs. After talking to a few of you I have decided we need to retool things a little bit as we did not have a very successful turn out this summer. I am assuming it was because summertime is a busy time for everyone and hoping things will pick up a little bit in the fall. That being said, it is getting harder for me to be in charge of everything. I sincerely do not mind updating the blog with information. But, always being in charge of finding where to do it, what books to read, what time, who will help with author bio and questions has sort of gotten to be a little daunting. With my husbands new law firm and a new baby on the way I definitely will need help with book club if it is going to continue going. I have asked for volunteers in the past and I feel like everyone is very well meaning but too busy to commit.

My suggestion for each book club going forward is that we each volunteer to take a month and plan the entire thing. For example, if you choose to be in charge in October you choose the book, location, time, and find someone to do questions etc. You do NOT have to do everything yourself. If you'd like to meet at Gelato or YumBeri that is totally up to you. If you'd like to host it in your home or ask another member to host it that is fine as well! If you don't have a book to suggest then you can just pick from the list on the blog. I will still be able to update the blog you would just plan everything and then email me the details to post.

I think if we try this for the next four to six months and we still have a poor turn out then maybe we need to let book club go for a bit. I have really loved spending time with all of you and reading new books that I would never have known about but with this baby arriving in November I think it would be great to have some of the responsibility more dispersed. This way, book club will feel more like a group. Initially I had just agreed to email out the information but every month I feel like I'm scrambling to find somewhere to have it and someone to host it. I think this way it will be much easier on everyone. If you don't agree i will NOT be offended, I promise!

I sincerely would love your feedback. As for September, book club is supposed to be on the 22nd. I can plan this month and if everyone else wants to pick another month after that is totally fine.

If I have missed anyone in this email please forward it on. I also plan to post it on the blog.

Thanks!

Leslie
